Juncus inflexus

Description

Juncus inflexus, commonly known as hard rush, is a clump-forming perennial with stiff, blue-green cylindrical stems forming dense, upright tussocks. In summer it produces small, inconspicuous brownish-green flowers along the stems, adding subtle texture rather than showy blooms.

This species is valuable for wetland biodiversity, providing shelter for small wildlife and stabilising pond edges and damp soils. Its upright, spreading habit and tolerance of waterlogged or consistently moist conditions make it ideal for pond margins, wet meadows, and naturalistic water gardens.
